How Together collects, uses, and protects your information, and the choices you have. Built for two people, not for advertisers.

Last updated July 27, 2026

Together (“Together”, “we”, “us”) is an app for long-distance couples, operated by Together. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using Together, you agree to the practices described here.

In short

Together is built for two people to stay close. Most of what you create is shared only with your partner.

We don't sell your data, show third-party ads, or track you across other apps and websites.

Your location is end-to-end encrypted, so only your partner's device can read it. We can't.

We use a small set of trusted providers (Apple, our hosting/storage, and a privacy-respecting analytics tool) to run the service.

Who this applies to

This policy covers the Together iOS app and its backend service. Together is intended for adults; it is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them (see Children's privacy below).

Information we collect

Account & identity

  • Sign in with Apple. We use Apple's authentication to sign you in and create your account. We store a unique account identifier provided by Apple. We do not store your Apple ID password, and we do not retain your Apple email address or Apple account name for our own use.
  • Display name. A name you choose, shown to your partner.

Profile & relationship

  • Your mood, status message, time zone, and the couple's anniversary date.
  • The connection linking you and your partner.

Content you share

  • Moments (photos), doodles (drawings), notes / weekly gratitude, song dedications, and calendar events. This content is shared with your partner within your connection.

Profile pictures

  • Together works differently here: your profile picture is chosen by your partner, and theirs is chosen by you. You cannot set your own.
  • This means the picture displayed as you is an image your partner uploaded from their photo library. We store it, a small preview used by the widgets, the time it was set, which partner chose it, and whether you've seen it yet.
  • You can remove the picture on your own profile at any time, without your partner's agreement and without them being notified. Removing it deletes the stored image.
  • Pictures are stripped of embedded metadata (including any location tags) and re-encoded when uploaded.

Location (optional: the “Distance” feature)

  • If you enable distance sharing, the app collects your precise location and shares it with your partner.
  • This location is end-to-end encrypted on your device before it leaves it. It is stored only as encrypted data that we cannot decrypt or read; only your partner's device holds the key. You can turn distance sharing off at any time.

Purchases

  • If you buy Together Plus or other in-app purchases, Apple processes the payment. We receive your subscription/purchase status (to unlock features) but never your payment card or bank details.

Device & technical data

  • A push notification token so we can deliver notifications.
  • Basic technical context such as app version and device/OS information used by our analytics provider.

Usage analytics

  • We collect product-usage data, such as screens viewed, features used, and in-app actions, to understand and improve the app. This is processed by our analytics provider (see How we share information below).
  • Analytics events are associated with your account identifier. We do not record your screen, and we do not send your photos, messages, notes, or location to our analytics provider. We may attach coarse, derived properties (for example, your mood category or how long you've been connected).

Feedback you send

  • When you submit feedback, suggestions, or a bug report in the app, we store the message content, the category you choose, and diagnostic metadata (app version, build number, OS version, and device model) so we can reproduce issues and improve Together.
  • Please don't include sensitive personal information in free-text feedback, since it's stored as you wrote it.

We do not collect: contacts or address book, health or fitness data, financial information beyond purchase status, browsing history, or advertising identifiers (IDFA).

How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide the app: authenticate you, connect you with your partner, and power features (moments, moods, distance, journal, chapters, dedications, notifications, and more).
  • Process purchases: unlock and manage Together Plus and other purchases.
  • Improve the app: analyze usage to fix problems, understand which features help, and plan new ones.
  • Keep the service secure and reliable: prevent abuse, debug issues, and maintain uptime.
  • Communicate: send functional notifications (such as a nudge or a partner's update) and respond to your requests.

We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How we share information

We share information only as needed to run Together:

  • Your partner. Content and signals you create in a connection (name, mood, status, moments, doodles, notes, dedications, events, and, if enabled, your encrypted location) are shared with the partner you're connected to.
  • Apple. For Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and push notification delivery.
  • Analytics provider (PostHog). Processes product-usage data on our behalf to help us improve the app. Configured without session recording or advertising features.
  • Music services (such as Apple Music, Spotify). When you search for a song to dedicate, your search query is sent to these services to return results.
  • Infrastructure providers. Our hosting, database, and object-storage providers store and process data so the service can operate. They act as our processors under appropriate agreements.
  • Discord. Feedback submissions and certain operational alerts are relayed to our private team workspace on Discord so we can triage and respond. We share only what's necessary, and we never sell your data.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), subject to this policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service.

Photo quality and originals. Every moment you share stays in your history for as long as your account is active. The full-resolution original is treated differently depending on your plan:

  • With Together Plus, we keep the full-resolution original of every moment for as long as your subscription is active.
  • Without Plus, moments are shown at full quality for their first 30 days. After that they are shown at a reduced resolution, and the full-resolution original is permanently deleted after 37 days. The reduced-resolution copy and the thumbnail are kept, so the moment itself does not disappear from your history.
  • If a Plus subscription ends, we wait at least 7 further days before deleting any original, and we notify both partners in advance. Once an original has been deleted it cannot be recovered — including by subscribing again.

Account deletion is a separate process with its own timeline. When you delete your account:

  • Your account credentials and device identifiers are removed promptly, as are your weekly gratitude entries.
  • Shared relationship content (moments / photos, doodles, notes & journal, song dedications, and calendar events) is archived for up to 30 days to allow recovery, then permanently deleted.
  • Profile pictures follow the same archive-then-delete timeline as the rest of your shared content when an account is deleted — both the picture you chose of your partner and the one they chose of you. A picture you remove yourself is different: it is deleted straight away, not archived.
  • We may retain certain records longer where we must, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

Encrypted location data is short-lived by design. Note that deleting your account does not cancel an active Together Plus subscription, which is billed by Apple and must be cancelled in iOS Settings.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • Port your data to another service.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

You can exercise these rights by contacting us at hello@try-together.app. We will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

On-device controls you can use any time:

  • Location & notifications: manage in iOS Settings; turn distance sharing off in the app.
  • Disconnect / stop sharing: stop sharing content with your partner via the app.

Deleting your account & data

You can delete your account anytime in the app via Settings → Account → Delete account (or by emailing hello@try-together.app). Deleting your account ends your connection and notifies your partner; your partner keeps their own account and can pair with someone new.

  • Your account credentials and device identifiers are removed promptly, along with your weekly gratitude entries.
  • Shared relationship content (moments / photos, doodles, notes & journal, song dedications, and calendar events) is archived for up to 30 days to allow recovery, then permanently deleted.
  • Profile pictures on both sides of the connection are removed on the same timeline — the one your partner chose of you, and the one you chose of them.

Deleting your account does not cancel an active Together Plus subscription. Because subscriptions are billed by Apple, you must cancel in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. See the retention exceptions described above.

Security

We protect your information with measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all communication with our servers.
  • End-to-end encryption for distance/location data, so we cannot read it.
  • Secure key storage on your device (iOS Keychain).
  • Access controls and standard operational safeguards on our servers.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and continually improve our safeguards.

International data transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers.

Children's privacy

Together is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@try-together.app and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice (such as in-app). Your continued use of Together after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
